ICBS 2026 opened August 9 at Yanqihu Lake International Convention Center in Beijing. Initiated by Academician Shing-Tung Yau in 2023, the congress is themed Focus on Basic Sciences, Leading the Future of Humanity. Over 80 international award laureates, 400+ renowned scholars and 800+ researchers from 30+ countries gathered in Beijing.
The opening ceremony awarded Breakthrough Science Medals named after nine scientific giants including Emmy Noether, Shiing-Shen Chern, Andrew Wiles, Marie Curie, Samuel C.C. Ting, David Gross, Chien-Shiung Wu, Steven Chu and Charles K. Kao. 111 high-level papers won Frontier Science Awards covering mathematics (74), physics (20) and information science and engineering (17).
During two weeks, over 500 academic sessions will be held covering generative large model reasoning, computer vision, human-computer interaction, quantum information and other frontier topics.
